Our diverse subsystems supply opportunities for students of various interests and studies.
Read below to learn more about how each subsystem contributes to our project.
Aerodynamics
The Aerodynamics team designs and develops components that control airflow around the car, including wings, diffusers, and body panels. The goal is to optimize downforce, reduce drag, and improve overall handling and performance on the track. Students interested in fluid dynamics, CAD design, and testing aerodynamic concepts will find their fit here.
Chassis
Chassis involves the conceptualization and design of base framework of the vehicle. All components will be mounted onto the chassis. A sturdy chassis is vital for the creation of the FSAE vehicle.
Students interested in designing, welding, metalwork, and machining will find their fit here.
Drivetrain
The Drivetrain team focuses on taking the power and torque produced by the engine and transmitting it to the wheels, making the car move. This includes working with gear ratios, designing drivetrain components, and ensuring power delivery is reliable and efficient. Students with a passion for mechanical systems, load transfer, and gearing will thrive on this team.
Electronics & Ergonomics
Ergonomics and electronics are essential - they allow for the driver to perform at his or her best at competition time. Ergonomics involves the fit and interaction of the driver in the car, while electronics are crucial to providing prompt, accurate feedback to the driver and team.
Students interested in wiring, sensors, and human-device interaction will find their fit here.
Powertrain
The Powertrain team manages the engine, air intake, air exhaust, cooling system, and fuel tank, all with the goal of maximizing engine performance. Students interested in developing air and fuel systems, tuning performance, and optimizing engine efficiency will find their place here.
Suspension & Brakes
Suspension dictates static and dynamic qualities, like how the car handles in turns and straightaways. The goal is to maximize grip and handling for the driver to shorten racing time in competition.
Students interested in designing and manufacturing the suspension system and braking system will find their fit here.
Business
The Business Team manages the administrative side of our student-led Formula SAE organization. Our responsibilities include handling finances, maintaining communication with sponsors, and managing the team’s FSAE bank account. We also play a key role in marketing, branding, and promoting the team.
DCOBA students who are interested in administration, finance, or marketing will find an excellent fit on this team. Whether you’re passionate about sponsorship development, financial management, or creative outreach, the Business Team is where strategy meets innovation.
